What is a face serum and how does it work?
A face serum is a lightweight, easily absorbed liquid (usually oil or water-based) that is a concentrated skincare product designed to address specific skin concerns. A face serum is a great next step after cleansing and before moisturising the skin as part of your everyday skincare routine.
What skin types can use this serum?
The serum is suitable for all skin types.
We suggest patch testing on a small part of your skin ahead of using all over the face.
What are the key ingredients in this serum and what do they do?
The key active ingredients in the Levagen+ Smart Face Serum are:
- 1.5% Levagen®+ – an advanced better absorbing form of Palmitoylethanolamide (PEA), is a naturally occurring fatty acid that plays a vital role in enhancing the skin’s natural barrier, supporting lipid synthesis which is crucial for maintaining hydration and improving water retention. It is designed not only for dermatological support but also for individuals seeking to maintain healthier, more resilient skin.
- 5% Niacinamide – Strengthening skin barrier, promoting even skin tone and boosting collagen production to fight signs of ageing.
- 2% N-Acetyl Glucosamine – Brightens and rejuvenates the skin.
- 2.5% Vitamin E – Heals and soothes skin, strengthening skin’s lipid barrier and boosting elasticity.
- 2% Vitamin B5 – Intensely hydrating, soothing redness and irritation.
- NAG 2% – Antioxidant promoting healing and helping with fine lines and wrinkles.
- Lactic Acid – Biome support to balance and hydrate the skin for superior barrier function.
Does the serum include essential oils?
The serum includes the following essential oils, which combined are less than 1% of the total formula, and superfood blends:
- Lime – Antiseptic, cleansing, detoxifying.
- Lavender – Cell regenerating, sebum balancing.
- Geranium – Skin firming, hydrating, oxygenating, skin repairing, soothing.
- Ylang Ylang – Antimicrobial, stimulates circulation, calming.
- Roman Chamomile – Healing, soothing, antioxidant, toning.
The oils chosen have been specifically selected for their therapeutic benefits on skincare to elevate the benefits of Levagen+, the hero ingredient.
The product also includes the following botanical extracts, each of which bring their own, unique benefit to the formulation
- Aloe Vera – Soothing, hydrating, healing.
- Broccoli and Kale – Nutrient-rich, skin health and radiance.
- Milk Thistle – Detoxing
- Papaya – Exfoliating, skin renewal.
How do I apply this serum to my face?
Use one pump morning and night and apply to the skin after cleansing and before moisturising. Moisturiser should be layered on top of this product.
We recommend using SPF every morning as part of a daily skincare routine as your skin may become more delicate to the effects of the sun/sunlight.
Can I use this serum with other skincare products?
Yes. The serum can be used as part of your usual skincare routine.
How long will it take to see results?
The skin should look more hydrated after first use.
When we did our clinical study that looked at reducing redness, it took 4 weeks for our participants to notice significant improvements in their skin.
Is this serum suitable for sensitive skin?
Yes. The serum is suitable for all skin types. However, some users may experience slight redness on first use, which is not unusual for an active cosmeceutical product.
Redness can happen when your skin’s protective barrier is weak, and it might also be your skin reacting or “detoxing” when using pure botanical-ingredient-based formulas.
The hero ingredient of Levagen®+ within this serum will help to soothe redness or sensitivity and create a healthier skin barrier function.
Our hero ingredient, PEA, is a fatty amide, which means that is it insoluble in aqueous solutions (water). However, we have added a dispersion technology, Lipisperse(r), which not only allows the Levagen(r) to disperse evenly in the product but also allows it passage past the skin’s barrier which, is aqueous in nature. This allows for deeper penetration. Once absorbed, PEA acts as a calming agent for the skin. It helps to pacify irritated skin and strengthen the skin’s protective barrier.
Can I use this serum during the day and at night?
Yes. We recommend using one pump morning and night after cleansing the skin and before moisturising.

Does this serum contain any harmful chemicals or parabens?
No.
Is this product vegan and cruelty-free?
Our serum contains N-Acetyl Glucosamine (NAG) which is a marine-based ingredient, derived from chitin; a natural polymer found in crustacean shells.
Yes, our serum is cruelty-free. Ingredients have been responsibly sourced, and the product has been brought to life using artisan crafting techniques which help to support our low carbon footprint and commitment to sustainability.
Is this serum safe to use if I am pregnant or breastfeeding?
No ingredients have been included in the formula that are contraindicated to pregnancy or breast-feeding. However, hormonal changes affect the skin differently. We recommend patch testing if prone to heightened sensitivity at the time. If you are concerned, please consult your physician.
Can this serum help with acne or breakouts?
Many of the ingredients within this serum are designed to reduce redness, contain antibacterial and antiseptic properties and detox, benefiting acne-prone skin.
Our hero ingredient Levagen®+ also helps to improve overall skin resilience. By targeting dehydrated and irritated skin from within, it aids in providing a foundation for healthier looking, hydrated and more balanced skin.
How should I store this serum?
Please keep the serum at room temperature and out of direct sunlight with the lid firmly on.
Store at or below 25 degrees C in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight.
What is the shelf life of this product after opening?
The Levagen®+ Smart Face Serum has a shelf life of 24 months from opening.
